Job description

Our client, a Communications Specialist Company based in Nicosia, is looking for a highly skilled Wireless Communications Engineer, who will be reporting to the General Manager. They are looking for a Wireless Communications Engineer with expertise in cellular communication systems, Software-De?ned Radios (SDR), and RF front-end integration. The ideal candidate will be responsible for integrating physical layer (PHY) stacks on SDR platforms and configuring RF chipsets, such as those from Analog Devices (AD936x, etc.). This role requires a deep understanding of wireless communication protocols, PHY layer development, and hands-on experience with RF hardware.

Job Duties

Key Responsibilities:

PHY Layer Integration:

Integrate and optimize the physical layer stack (LTE/5G NR) on SDR boards.

Implement algorithms for signal processing, including synchronization, channel estimation, and demodulation.

RF Front-End Configuration:

Configure and optimize RF front-end chipsets (e.g., Analog Devices transceivers: AD9361) for various cellular frequencies and bandwidths.

Work with tuning parameters like LO frequency, gain control, and filters to meet system performance requirements.

Software Development:

Develop and integrate drivers and firmware for SDR boards to communicate with RF front-end chipsets.

Collaborate with software teams to optimize PHY performance.

Testing and Validation:

Conduct lab testing and validation of SDR-based PHY layer solutions.

Utilize test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and vector network analyzers (VNAs) for RF performance tuning.

Perform over-the-air (OTA) testing and analysis.

System Optimization:

Analyze system-level performance, including signal quality, throughput, and latency.

Optimize RF front-end configuration for different environmental and operational conditions.

Documentation:

Provide comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user guides.

Maintain system configuration and troubleshooting records.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.

Experience:

3+ years of hands-on experience in cellular communications, SDR development, and RF front- end configuration.

Experience integrating PHY layers for LTE, 5G NR, or similar wireless standards.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in working with SDR platforms (e.g., USRP, LimeSDR, Xilinx Zynq- based boards).

Strong understanding of RF front-end devices like Analog Devices AD9361, etc.

Expertise in signal processing concepts (OFDM, MIMO, beamforming, etc.).

Programming skills in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB for system implementation and testing.

Experience with RF test and measurement tools.

Additional Skills:

Knowledge of cellular communication protocols: LTE, 5G NR, and GSM.

Familiarity with OpenAirInterface or similar open-source cellular frameworks is a plus.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with FPGA-based PHY implementations.

Knowledge of RF design principles, impedance matching, and antenna systems.
